CLOSE TO QUEENSTOWN LANDINGS / FLIGHT TIME: 5-10 MINUTES FROM QUEENSTOWN AIRPORT

Some of the most dramatic alpine scenery in Queenstown is also the closest. Our near-Queenstown helicopter landing locations are all within a five to ten minute flight from Queenstown Airport — meaning less time in the air and more time on the ground, in the mountains, making photographs.

These locations span Cecil Peak Station, The Remarkables, Bayonet Peak, and Round Hill, along with a number of lesser-known spots that don’t appear on any map. Despite the short flight, the scenery is anything but ordinary. Expect rocky cliff edges with Lake Wakatipu views, open tussock ridgelines, natural stone amphitheatres, bush-fringed river valleys, and reliable snow access through winter and well into spring.

Who are close-to-Queenstown landings best suited for?

These locations work well for almost every elopement, but they’re particularly well suited to couples flying in multiple helicopters, elopements with young children or older guests, anyone with mobility considerations, or couples who simply want to maximise their time on the ground rather than in transit. The shorter flight also makes double landings more cost-effective.

Recommended: Double Landing — Two Close-to-Queenstown Locations

One of the most popular ways to use these locations is a double landing — ceremony at one spot, then a short flight to a second location with a completely different look and feel. You get two distinct backdrops, more variety in your photos, and the experience of two separate alpine environments, all within a compact timeframe.

Snow is often accessible at close-to-Queenstown landings right through to late spring, particularly at higher elevations and on south-facing slopes — making a snow landing a realistic option for much of the year.
