FLIGHT TIME: 5-10 MINUTES FROM QUEENSTOWN AIRPORT
Cecil Peak is one of the closest and most popular landing locations. It is just over 4500 feet and a short 5 minute flight from Queenstown Airport. The Peak is on the south side of Lake Wakatipu with stunning views across the lake to the township and surrounding mountains. Cecil Peak has a number of landing locations, each with different aspects and views.
CECIL PEAK – THE LEDGE
The Ledge is on the north-facing side of Cecil Peak with views across to the township and up Lake Wakatipu toward Glenorchy. It has high cliff-edges and rocky outcrops to make for dramatic photos. The terrain is relatively easy to walk around with large flat areas of rock and tussock.
CECIL PEAK – ISLAND AND GARDEN SPURS
Island and Garden Spurs on Cecil Peak are a bit higher than The Ledge so snow can stay around longer, although these landing locations can be more exposed to southerly winds. Both spots have views back towards The Remarkable with flat grassy areas and large areas of rocky, uneven terrain and rocky outcrops.
